Overview

Development is at the heart of Unseen’s mission. Back in 2011 when Unseen’s co-founder traveled to Asia and Africa, he was struck by the amazing work of nonprofits who were serving vulnerable people. He was also struck by how many more lives  could be impacted if these organizations were better equipped to raise more funds. Today, Unseen’s Program department partners with 20+ anti-trafficking orgs in 20+ counties, and we produce customized fundraising materials that they use to boost their organizations’ funding levels and serve more people.

As Development Director, you’ll serve as a development officer cultivating a portfolio of major donors fueling this work (90% of time), and you’ll oversee the development department (10%).

  • Travel: Approximately 2-4 short trips annually to Fargo office

Responsibilities

  • Identify, cultivate, and manage a portfolio of donors—prospective and existing—that represent high giving potential for Unseen.
  • Execute timely communication with each person in your portfolio to ensure that relationships are cultivated, retained, and expanded.
  • Initiate a healthy volume of donor outreach calls and conversations per week.
  • Achieve or exceed your personal monthly revenue targets.
  • Guide Unseen to achieve its organizational revenue targets through biweekly meetings.

Qualifications

  • 5 years cultivating individual donations of $10,000+ with evidence of success.
  • 5 years inspiring generosity by initiating donor meetings and phone calls.
  • Possess a personal donor network to tap into and engage with about Unseen.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a wide spectrum of people.
  • Strong organizational skills, including focus and disciplined methods to meet goals.
  • Experience and/or comfortability working in an environment with these attributes:
  • .....Entrepreneurial, founder-led organization which is staffed remotely.
  • .....Small nonprofit: 8 core staff + network of contract employees and partner orgs.
  • .....Unseen’s Program benefits people who live mainly outside of donor regions.
  • .....The majority (but not all) of current funding comes from ND and MN donors.
  • .....Willingness to meet face-to-face with select major donors in the ND-MN region.
